About This ESP32 Matter Kit
The ESP32 Matter kit from Techiesms — the XIAO MATTER Kit — is a single-board Matter smart home node built around the Seeed Studio XIAO ESP32C6. It combines a light, an RGB color light, a temperature and humidity sensor, an occupancy sensor, a scene button, and a 4-speed dimmable fan into one device. Being a true ESP32 Matter kit, it pairs directly with any Matter-certified app or hub — no bridge, no proprietary app. It’s the companion hardware kit for Episode 8, the finale of the ESP32 Matter Series on the Techiesms YouTube channel.
What’s in the Box
- 1x Seeed Studio XIAO ESP32C6
- 2x WS2812B RGB LEDs (onboard)
- 1x DHT11 Temperature & Humidity Sensor
- 1x PIR Motion Sensor
- 1x Potentiometer
- 4x Relay Modules (1 for the light, 3 for capacitive fan-speed dimming)
- 3x Pushbuttons — Light control, Fan speed control, and a fully custom third button
Connections

Key Features
- 7 Matter endpoints on one node: On/Off Light, Generic Switch, Temperature Sensor, Humidity Sensor, Color Light, Occupancy Sensor, and Dimmable Fan
- Onboard dual WS2812B addressable RGB LEDs for full-color Matter Color Light control
- Capacitive relay-based fan dimming circuit — smooth 4-speed fan control without a bulky triac dimmer
- 3 physical pushbuttons: one toggles the light, one cycles fan speed, and one is fully custom — assign it to any scene or automation from your Matter app
- Last-known state (light, color, fan speed) is saved to onboard flash and restored automatically after a power cut
- Native Matter over Wi-Fi — no proprietary app or bridge required
- Long-press the BOOT button to factory reset / decommission the node
Matter Endpoints
| # | Endpoint | Matter Type | Function |
|---|---|---|---|
| 1 | Light | On/Off Light | Controls the main relay-driven light |
| 2 | Scene Button | Generic Switch | Sends a custom event to trigger scenes/automations |
| 3 | Temperature | Temperature Sensor | Live ambient temperature from the onboard DHT11 |
| 4 | Humidity | Humidity Sensor | Live ambient humidity from the onboard DHT11 |
| 5 | RGB Light | Color Light | Full-color control of the onboard dual WS2812B LEDs |
| 6 | Occupancy | Occupancy Sensor | Motion detection via the onboard PIR sensor |
| 7 | Fan | Dimmable Light | 4-speed fan control via relay dimming + potentiometer knob |

Who It’s For
Built for makers, students, and hobbyists who want one hands-on ESP32 Matter kit to learn the full Matter smart home stack — lighting, switches, sensors, and dimmable loads — in a single project.
Frequently Asked Questions
What makes this an ESP32 Matter kit?
It’s built on the Seeed Studio XIAO ESP32C6, which has native Matter support, so every endpoint on the board speaks Matter directly over Wi-Fi with no bridge required.
Do I need a separate hub to use this ESP32 Matter kit?
No — pair it directly with Apple Home, Google Home, Amazon Alexa, Samsung SmartThings, or Home Assistant.
Can I reprogram the ESP32 Matter kit?
Yes — it’s fully open, Arduino-programmable, and the full source code is on the Techiesms GitHub as part of the ESP32 Matter Series.
